The summer of 1992 was passing by without any events. I had never heard from Olli again and so the chance to be published had become even lower - to be objective: If a tape-label with a circulation of 20 did not want us, who would. Furthermore, Henning, who had been with me since the second demo tape "Road to Hell" had left to Cologne and as a good-bye I decided to record our last demo "Ivory Tower" again at Karl Parchow's "Stompin'Crash" Studio but he too was tearing it down as he found a better location for his work.
"Ivory Tower" has "The End" written all over it. Thinly disguised this is about me having played all my cards, used all my tricks and resources and basically nothing came of it. This would be the last song I would record with Henning and the last song for "TSU!", it would be the last song recorded at the old studio and it would be the last song recorded with the CASIO gear that made it possible for me to make music in the first place (a SK-5, a CZ1 (later replaced by a CZ 3000), a HS1 and an RZ-1, for those who wonder...). I sold it all for a newer, fresher sound with the roland gear, which felt much more modern, but lost a little bit of flavour. The money gained by this liquidation of assets basically financed "The Crimson Dance E.P".
As the demo version (not the completely unpublished studio version above) of "Ivory Tower" is part of the "Complett" compilation and as I am currently reworking these songs in a fitting style, sometimes it happens that there are good versions that are, however, not really compatible with CREAMVIII. So here is the Ivory-Voice-Version of Ivory Tower.
Sitting in a dark room, waiting for light
There is chalk on his face and a mood
Praying to the old ones they forgot
He sings that ancient tune.
Confident in himself, but publicised
There is little hope to calm down
He listens to a new song, candlelight
Burns down and fades out
OH-OH-OH
Ivory Tower
Oh-OH-oh
Ivory Tower
OH-OH-OH
Ivory Tower
Oh-OH-oh
Ivory Tower
Sitting in a dark room
You can see on his face that it's done
Tonight's the night we all came in
As they shot us down one by one
Will you get up or will you stay in?
Would you please hear my call?
His face distorts and then we know
There had never been any chance at all.
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
(there had never been any chance at all)
